Let the Games Begin (Almost!)

I signed-up for the Yarn Harlot's Knitting Olympics a couple of days ago. My project of choice: The Booga Bag. My friends will probably read this and think, "Amanda, that is so not hard enough for you to choose for the Olympics!" BUT, because I am down to barely two hours of knitting a week, I think that it is going to be a small miracle that I cross the finish line in time! So, the Booga Bag it is! I haven't ever knit a bag AND I've never made a felted project. GO TEAM USA!

I heard from my SP the other day...and I've been chatting with my spoilee. They both seem to be delightful knitters! (Too bad that I almost signed my last e-mail to my spoilee with my name!! Ooops!) I'm so excited to be doing this again...What's better than getting to shop for yarn without the guilt?!? I've gotten my first package together for my spoilee. She likes to knit mits, fingerless mits, bags, socks, etc. What can I say? Some of us like DPNs much MUCH more than the rest of us...

Speaking of which, I started my first project on DPNs a couple of weeks ago. I decided to knit the "shrug-like" scarf on the cover of Scarf Style. Folks, let me just tell you that it isn't pretty. I'm knitting it in the suggested yarn (Rowan's Kid Classic-Color No. 839). It's grey with a strand of black woven in...good stuff. Here's what I've got so far:

Because knitting on the DPNs is so time consuming (and tedious, I might add), I'm already trying to come up with alternative ways to get this thing knit. I know that they make 11" circulars...but do they made them in bamboo or wood? If so, can I use them for a sleeve that has 66 stitches?

Alright, so I finally finished the Sweater with Cable Raglans. That's about all I have to say about that. Well...almost. The sleeves are about 8 inches too long, which could be fixed...possibly. But, the last time I tried it on, I thought that I would have looked better in a potato sack! This sweater has the biggest arm holes of any sweater that I've ever seen in my life! The neck and collar are nice and the length is good. I knit to gauge and am still convinced that, even if I had knit the smallest size (I knit a Medium), it would still only have been suited for a...Pittsburgh Steeler (with pads!). Even though it was a complete bust, check it out:

Knitting the collar...

Right sleeve and side sewn and part of left sleeve set in...

Finished sweater...

While I might not be doing a lot of actual knitting, I am definitely thinking about knitting. Lou and I have already started making plans for Maryland Sheep and Wool, which happens to fall the weekend after my 26th birthday. Bet you can't guess where the b-day funds are going! I have made a deal with myself, though. I'm not going to buy anymore yarn before the festival so that I can try and knit up some of my stash. Well...at least that's what I'm telling myself :)
